Panthers level season series with Huskies after 1-0 shutout

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Extending the undefeated streak in October (3-0-1) after winning its second straight match, Davenport University women's soccer evened the regular season series with Michigan tech (1-1) after a 1-0 shutout over the Huskies.

The teams combined for three shots in the first 45 minutes of play, with Haley Diekevers getting the only attempt on goal just inside the first two minutes of the match. After little to no drama in the first, an entirely different contest unfolded in the latter 45 as DU outpaced Michigan Tech nine-to-seven in shot attempts - the Panthers holding the opponent to two shots on target for the entire match.

After three saves by the Huskies and one by Elizabeth Wolter, just over 20 minutes unfolded until a scoring opportunity surfaced for the Panthers. Gabby Scholten made a low entry pass toward the net, and a mistimed attempt at a save by MTU gave Taylor Meadows a clear look for the first and only score (71') of the match, 1-0. With just under 11 minutes left to play, another key save by Wolter brought her match total to two and sealed her fourth clean sheet this season. The victory improved DU's season record to 5-3-4 overall (3-2-3 GLIAC).

DU will host Northern Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 20, as the Panthers look to equalize the season series currently in the Wildcats' favor (1-0).
