Preview: Panthers Resume Conference Play on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After taking a break from conference action, the Davenport University women's volleyball is set for a pair of road matches this week, heading to No. 2 Ferris State and Roosevelt. 

Last weekend, the Panthers went 2-1 at the Midwest Region Crossover, defeating Thomas More and Cedarville while falling to Drury. DU is now 6-2 in its previous eight matches. 

Player Notes
Abby Alan
  • Leads the team in kills (242), which ranks sixth in the conference.
  • Has recorded double-digit kills in six of the previous seven matches.
  • Was named to the Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament team last weekend, leading the Panthers to a 2-1 record through three matches. The sophomore notched 50 kills and 21 digs on the weekend.

Karley Pretzer
  • Last time out, the freshman notched a season-high 12 kills against Drury (Oct. 19).
  • Ranks fourth on the squad this season in kills per set (2.36).

Jessica Florn
  • Last time out, the senior notched a career-high 17 digs against Drury (Oct. 19).

About the Bulldogs
  • Ranked No. 4 in the most recent AVCA Division II National Rankings.
  • Finished the 2023 season with a 27-8 overall record, going 15-3 in GLIAC action.
  • A season ago, FSU won the GLIAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship, where they fell 3-1 to Missouri-St. Louis.

About the Lakers
  • First season in NCAA Division II, previously an NAIA institution.
  • A season ago, the Lakers finished with an 11-14 overall record, going 7–7 in their final season in the CCAC. 
  • Viktoria Marysheva is the top returner for Roosevelt, leading the squad in kills each of the past three seasons. The senior was a second-team all-conference pick last season and set a career-high with 274 kills last year.
  • Return both of their setters from last season, Isa Grana and Zoe Hutchinson. Last season both had a significant impact on the court, each tallying at least 370 assists.
  • Picked to finish 11th in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
