DU's strong effort against No. 9 SVSU falls short

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Going toe-to-toe with a top-ten team in the country, Davenport University men's soccer fell 1-0 to No. 9 Saginaw Valley State University in the final regular-season home contest for the Panthers.

DU nearly opened the match with a quick score as Isiah Meyer's header attempt inside the box (3') was stopped short by Nick Kay. The Panthers' strong defense in the first half saw Beau Hudd make two big saves between the 19th and 21st minute, keeping the score level at 0-0 at halftime.

The same concerted effort by the Panthers played out in the latter 45 minutes, but an energized offensive attack by the Cardinals saw 10 of their 17 shot attempts posted in the the second - with their only attempt on target in the half bouncing past the goal line (72'). DU was awarded a free-kick opportunity near the 85th minute, as Josh Cook stepped up and delivered a strike on target that was saved by the Cardinals, giving SVSU the 1-0 victory.

In an attempt to secure the No. 2 position in the conference standings, the Panthers (8-5-4, 5-3-3 GLIAC) hit the road for the final regular-season contest, facing Roosevelt University on Friday, Nov. 1.
