Panthers Fall 3-0 to No. 4 Ferris State on Tuesday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team played its third consecutive home match on Tuesday evening, as they hosted No. 4 Ferris State on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 8). The Panthers (4-11, 2-5) fell 3-0 to the nationally ranked Bulldogs (15-0, 7-0 GLIAC) at the DU Student Center.

Freshman Karley Pretzer made just her second appearance on the season but registered seven kills (tied a team-high) in just two sets of action while swinging at an impressive .462 clip.

In the first set, Davenport kept things close early, getting out to a 7-6 advantage as Abby Alan had two kills in the early stages of the match. However, the Bulldogs took over from that point, going on an insurmountable 17-4 run, going on 23-11 in the set. FSU closed out the set with back-to-back points, taking down DU 25-12 and going ahead 1-0 in the match.

Set two played out in a similar fashion, seeing the Panthers with an early 7-6 lead once again with a balanced offensive attack as five different players recorded a kill during that span. Another big Ferris State run put Davenport too far behind to catch up, springing together a 15-4 rally and holding a double-digit lead (21-11). FSU finished the set on a three-point rally, defeating DU 25-14 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match

After falling behind 5-1 to begin the third set, Kaitlin Jordan set in motion a 4-0 run to tie the set 5-5. The Bulldogs slowly began to inch towards growing their lead, eventually putting together a 6-1 rally, taking an 18-11 advantage. Pretzer spurred a 4-0 rally late to bring the Panthers back within three (20-17). FSU closed the set with a kill from Olivia Dallape-Henneman, the GLIAC's leader in kills, to win the match following a 25-19 set three victory.

For the Panthers, Alan finished the evening with seven kills and nine digs. Jordan hit .300 with five kills and an ace, while Emma Turnquist registered five kills. Mehl Hansen led Davenport in assists, dishing out 23 in the loss.
