DU's decisive victory over UWP advances Panthers to GLIAC Tournament Semifinals

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Posting a resounding victory in the 2024 GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals, Davenport University men's soccer shut out Wisconsin-Parkside in a 2-0 victory for the Panthers.

It was a scoreless contest after the first 45 minutes of action, as each side posted a single shot-on-goal that was saved by the keepers. DU opened the second half by shooting one of three attempts on target, but patience ultimately paid off as an offensive attack broke out near the 63rd minute. Valerii Burlacenco sent a ground ball inside the box to create an opportunity for DU. Kirby Eggers capitalized on the chance with a strike into the goal, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Just under five minutes later, an attack started by Austin Hall allowed Easton Lopez to set up Eggers for his second goal (68') of the match. The sophomore forward increased his season total to four goals (two game-winners), solidifying the statement victory for the Panthers. Although a solid scoring output stole the show, the Panther defense was just as crucial to the win. Multiple disruptions by Cam Power and Josh Cook backed Beau Hudd's six saves to tally the freshman keeper's third shutout victory this year.

The win marked DU's ninth this season, the fourth-most overall in a single season since moving up to NCAA Division II competition. The Panthers will advance to the semifinals to face the No. 1-seeded Roosevelt Lakers on Friday, Nov. 15, for a 5 p.m. EST kickoff in Arlington Heights, Ill.
