CALEDONIA, Mich. - The men's rugby team picked up a gritty home win on Saturday over Adrian College to improve to 5-1 during the fall 15s schedule.
The game started with a quick score off of a maul by
Tatenda Rwenyu followed by another quick try touching players hands until
Tamuka Kambani was able to get in for a try. After a silly penalty in the 29th minute of the first half by DU, it looked as if the tide was turning in Adrian's favor making the score 10-3 and an easy score off the kickoff by their #11 making the score 10-8. However, DU was able to rebound after a penalty kick by
Sam Evans and a quick score off the base of a ruck with no time left by scrum half
Dawson Hovingh and Evans converting the kick after.
The second half was a bit more of the same with a score by freshman
Thango Mgidlana and conversion by Evans. Adrian managed to score 2 try's off of DU mistakes while attacking out of the Adrian 22.Â
"Overall I though we dominated the game on both sides of the ball. However, we allowed Adrian to hang in the game with some penalty issues. We can fix that going into next week's game versus #4 ranked Lindenwood University," said head coach
Dustin Steedman.
