Panthers Fall in Opening Round of GLIAC Tournament

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The No. 7-seeded  Davenport University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 2-seeded Grand Valley State University (No. 11 nationally) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena to conclude its 2024 campaign.

In the opening set, the Panthers (10-19, 6-11 GLIAC) put together an 8-2 rally, to take their first lead (19-18) over the Lakers (26-2, 14-2 GLIAC). The rally was set in motion by a kill from Emma Turnquist and capped by a Mehl Hansen kill. However, GVSU ended the set on a 7-1 run, taking down DU 25-20 and taking a 1-0 advantage in the match. The Lakers carried that momentum into the second set, getting ahead 12-3 and eventually winning the set 25-11.

A service ace from Ola Nowak capped a 4-0 DU rally to tie the third set at 18 apiece. GVSU halted the run with a kill by Paige Sanders, before Sydney Swan slammed a kill from Hansen to tie the set back up at 19-19. Grand Valley completed the sweep, ending the set on a 6-1 rally, taking the final set 25-20.

Swan led the way for the Panthers, notching eight kills and two digs. Kaitlin Jordan chipped in with five kills and three total blocks. Hansen finished the night with 19 assists, which put her at 806 on the year, ranking ninth all-time in program history.
