PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The winning ways came back for the men's Division I ACHA hockey team after a really tough stretch of games. The Panthers improved to 12-9 this season as they play unranked Robert Morris (Pa.) and beat them 5-2 and 9-1 over the weekend.

On Friday evening, Davenport opened the weekend with the 5-2 victory over the Colonials. The game stats pointed to the Panthers as they recorded 50 shots on goal compared to 23 for Robert Morris. It was a very uncharasterically clean game with just one minor penalty which was against Dylan Jouppi at 12:35 of the first period.

Kyler Lowden made a total of 21 saves and gave up one goal in the first and second periods. Taber Gutschick scored his fourth goal of the season at 18:25 of the first period unassisted to tie the game at 1-1. Peter Stojcevski gave Davenport a 2-1 lead at 13:57 of the second period with his fifth goal of the season with assists from Heath Drye and Trent Benedict. The Colonials tied the game at 2-2 at the 16:44 mark, but then the Panthers finished the game with three straight goals.

Stojcevski's second goal of the second period was the game-winning tally and came at the 17:22 mark from Drye and Benedict. The third period featured a pair of quick strike goals by Ryder McMillen. He scored his sixth of the season at 2:05 from Robert McLaughlin and the two combined for another score just 35 seconds later.

Saturday's matchup saw the Panthers score nine times on 55 shots on goal. Benedict scored the game's only power play goal at 6:23 of the first period from Brendan Bauer. Benedict would score two more times in the period for the hat trick after just 20 minutes. Benedict upped his team-leading season total to 15 goals with the third coming at 19:07 from Ryan Blackburn and Bauer.

Justin Turner and Noah Bradburn each scored a short-handed goal. Turner opened the second period scoring at 12:00 for his fifth goal of the season from Blackburn and Jouppi. Bradburn got his short-handed goal at 2:27 of the third period from Gutschick. McMillen scored two goals in the contest coming at 14:12 of the second period and 6:12 of the third period. Kieran Thiessen and Kristers Klavins also scored a goal for the Panthers.

Nathan Gauthier stopped 29 shots in the net for the Panthers. Reno Patrick gave up four goals for Robert Morris and was replaced by Patrick Colburn. He finished the final two periods for RMU and stopped 27 shots.

The team will enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend off before playing in the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Tournament beginning on Friday, December 6.
