KENTWOOD, Mich. - The Don Kimble Invitational is always a special couple of days for the Davenport swimming and diving teams as they honor their late assistant coach. This year, the teams also were able to perform well with eight school records and 16 NCAA "B" cuts.
Men's Highlights
The Panthers placed third out of seven schools in the team standings with 808.5 points.
Owen Stender accomplished the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 breast (54.06) and also in the 200 breast (1:59.01).
Micah Sholl competed in the 100 breast and made the NCAA "B" cut with a time of 54.52.
Mitch Dickey also in the 100 breast made a "B" cut at 55.21.
Gerard Labernia Oms set the school record in the 500 free (4:32.96) and also hit the "B" cut.
Eric Perczak in the 200 fly swam a time of 1:48.72 with a NCAA "B" cut.
David Szczygiel in the 200 fly hit the NCAA "B" cut in the prelims (1:49.84) and then placed second in the finals (1:50.82).
Marcel Setlak was able to set a couple of school records in the 100 fly (49.12 - fourth place) and 100 back (48.75 - first place). The 200 medlay relay set the school record at 1:29.65 and consisted of Setlak, Stender, Perczak, and Sholl.
Matthew Gauck set the school record in the three-meter, 11-dive with 458.90 points. He also made the NCAA cut in the one-meter, 11-dive with 453 points. Robby Russo made the NCAA cut in the one-meter, six-dive with 290.40 points and the one-meter, 11-dive with 468 points.
Women's Highlights
Out of the seven schools competing, the Panthers were able to finish fourth with 587 points.
Alicja Pinkowicz had three very good swims consisting of the 100 back, 200 back, and 100 fly. She made the NCAA "B" cut in all three events and also set the school record in the 100 back (55.04).
Ella Wagner set a new school record in the 200 breast (2:17.03) and made the NCAA "B" cut. She also was able to swim 2:04.93 in the 200 IM prelims to hit the "B" cut and then won the event with a time of 2:05.06. The 400 medley relay set the school record (3:47.89) and featured legs by Pinkowicz, Wagner,
Asyia Shank, and
Julia Mizik.
