Preview: Panthers Prep for Final Home Matches of 2024 Regular Season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team is set to play in its final home matches of the regular season this weekend. The Panthers will host Michigan Tech on Friday (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. and Northern Michigan at Saturday at 6 p.m. Saturday's match against the Wildcats will serve as the team's senior day, honoring their five seniors; Savannah Hall, Abby Welke, Jessica Florn, Emma Turnquist and Ola Nowak.

About the Huskies
  • In 2023, the Huskies finished 15-16, while going 10-8 in conference play. MTU advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals for the seventh consecutive season. 
  • Currently fifth in the GLIAC standings.
  • Through 23 games, the Huskies are 2-4 on the road , while 6-5 when playing at home.
  • Tech returns four All-GLIAC performers from a season ago;  Kaycee Meiners and Meg Raabe, Tess Hayes and Rachel Zurek.
  • Meiners was a First Team All-GLIAC selection in 2023, leading the conference in blocks per set (1.42) and finishing fifth in the league in hitting percentage (.334).

About the Wildcats
  • Finished their 2023 campaign with a 12-18 overall record, going 9-9 in GLIAC action, and finishing fifth in the conference.
  • Currently third in the GLIAC standings.
  • NMU returns Jacqueline Smith, a four-time First Team All-GLIAC honoree, who leads the way for the Wildcats. She came into the season 193 kills away from becoming the all-time kills leader in program history. She has surpassed that mark, recording 356 kills on the year and making her mark on the record books as the all-time kills leader in NMU history.
  • As a team, the Wildcats rank fourth in the conference in total digs (1,432). 
  • Leading the defense for NMU is Liesk Haugen, totaling 369 digs, which is the fourth most in the GLIAC. Last season, the libero finished second in the GLIAC in digs per set (5.07) and was an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honoree.
