Preview: Panthers Begin Busy Week Hosting Kuyper on Monday Evening

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - With three games on the horizon this week, the Davenport University men's basketball team is hosting Kuyper College on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the DU Student Center. The Panthers (1-4, 0-0 GLIAC) open GLIAC action later this week, heading to Detroit to matchup against Wayne State on Thursday.

Jovan Tucker is leading the Panthers through five games, averaging a team-high 12.6 points per contest to go along with 3.6 rebounds, 22.2 assists and 1.8 steals. Matyas Vrabel leads the squad in rebounding, grabbing 7.4 a game while scoring 11 points per contest. Vrabel notched the first double-double of his career last week against Northwood (Nov. 20), finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

About the Cougars
  • In their first season in nearly a decade in 2023-24, the Cougars went 20-9 overall and 16-5 in conference action. Kuyper College discontinued athletics in 2015, before rebooting the program ahead of the 2023-24 academic year.
  • Head Coach Gary Bailey led Grace Christian to six NCCAA National Championships (2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2019).
  • The Cougars have a +4.9 rebounding margin, averaging 43.6 rebounds per game while allowing 38.7.
