Panthers Down Walsh 4-1 Saturday Afternoon

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team took down Walsh 4-1 Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) at the MVP SportsPlex. With the victory, the Panthers improved to 6-1 overall, going 3-1 to start the spring season.

Skye Vandeleur and Hermon Mikael at No. 2 doubles set the tone early, taking down Aleksandra Chmir and Olesia Ivashchuk 6-0. Willemien Coetzee and Amy Bloch (No. 1), as well as Louise Hosking and Isabella Carofano (No. 3) took down their opponents 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Panthers.

At No. 4 singles, Vandeleur took down Carla Padberg 6-2, 6-2 to grow the DU lead to 2-0. Mikael defeated Ivashchuk 6-2, 6-3 to put Davenport just one point away from winning the match.

Coetzee came up clutch at No. 2 singles, as she won five straight games to win the third set 7-5 after trailing 5-2.

The Panthers will be back in action for the third consecutive day tomorrow (Feb. 18) against Tiffin at 10 a.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. at the MVP SportsPlex.
