Preview: Panthers Prep for Final Home Games of Season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After four consecutive games on the road, the Davenport University men's basketball team is returning home for its final two home games of the season. The Panthers (9-15, 4-10 GLIAC), are set to host Lake Superior State on Thursday (Feb. 22), followed by Ferris State on Saturday (Feb. 24).

Saturday's contest against the Bulldogs will also serve as the team's senior day, as they will recognize Jeff Carrier, Myles Belyeu and Jakub Dombek.

About the Lakers
  • Lost both of their First Team All-GLIAC performers from a season ago to graduation, Caden Ebeling and Kemon Bassett.
  • Kingsley Perkins has led the squad so far in the 2023-24 season, averaging 13.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game (third-most in the GLIAC). The 6-8 junior forward was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week twice (week 1 and week 10).
  • Five of the Laker's six losses have come on the road while posting a 13-1 record in home and neutral site games.
  • Entering the weekend winning six straight games and nine of their 10, with the only loss being to Saginaw Valley State (Thursday, Jan. 25).
  • Picked to finish seventh (tied with Davenport) in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches.

About the Bulldogs
  • Have been ranked as high as No. 12 in the NABC Coaches Poll.
  • Top returners include a pair of All-GLIAC performers from last season, Ben Davidson (First-Team) and Ethan Erickson (Second-Team). Erickson ranks fourth in the GLIAC in three-point percentage (47.1). He has drained 81 three-pointers this season, the most in the conference and sixth most in the nation.
  • Three separate Bulldogs have garnered GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors: Dolapo Olayinka (week 8), Ethan Erickson (weeks 6 & 7), and Reece Hazelton (week 4).
  • As a team, FSU ranks second in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (1.90) and in assists per game (21.1).
  • The Bulldogs also lead the GLIAC in scoring margin (14), which ranks among the top 10 in all of Division II.
