ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport men's tennis team dropped their opening match of the spring trip to Warner (NAIA) on Saturday night by a final score of 4-2. The Panthers are now 7-5 overall while Warner improves to 2-2.
Warner took the opening doubles point by winning at the one and three flights.
Subash Paramasivam and
Jan Stolin put together a win at the second flight with a 6-1 score over Nikhil Mittal and Luis Rodriguez. The one spot matchup was a close one before falling 7-5 with
Carlos Henriquez and
Simone Pacciolla.
Jose Brenes and
Marius Pion also had a tight matchup at the three spot falling 6-4.
Pacciolla won his six singles matchup by scores of 6-1, 6-2 over Mittal to tie the match. Rodriguez defeated Henriquez 6-2, 6-2 to give Warner a 2-1 lead. Sam Routzahn won 6-2, 6-4 over Pion at four singles for a 3-1 lead. Paramasivam kept the Panthers alive at two singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win over Carlos Quinones. The Royals clinched it at five singles with Diogo Botelho Pessoa winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 against Brenes. Stolin had a 4-1 lead in the third set at one singles but it went unfinished after the clinching point by Warner.
The Panthers are back on the court on Sunday, Feb. 25 with a match against Alma College (NCAA D3) at 1:00 PM.
