Panthers Dominate Alma on Sunday Afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport University women's tennis team picked up a dominating 7-0 victory over Alma on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus, winning every set of the match.

Slotted at No. 3 doubles, Angelica Montano and Olivia Kalee got things going for DU with a commanding 6-0 win over Annie Ross and Holly Hall. 

At No. 1 doubles for DU, Sophie Jackson and Kumiko Yamaguchi took down Kayla Weller and Leah Wronikowski 6-2, clinching the doubles point. Similarly, Charlotte Zhuwakini and Valentina Moreno won 6-2 over Karly Kushner and Jada Zerlaut at No. 2 doubles. 

Montano (No. 4) and Bloch (No.1) picked up the first singles wins of the day for the Panthers, each taking down their opponents 6-0, 6-1.

Zhuwakini defeated Wronikowski 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Yamaguchi took down Weller 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Jackson (No. 5) came away with a pair of 6-2 victories over Hall, while Kalee (No. 6) won 6-2, 6-1 against Ross.

With the win, Davenport moves to 8-3 overall and 6-3 since the start of spring play, while Alma falls to 2-3 on the year.

The Panthers will return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 27), taking on St. Bonaventure University at 8:30 p.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
