LEBANON, Ill. - The Davenport men's rugby team got back to its winning ways after a loss on the road last week against nationally-ranked Lindenwood. The Panthers defeated McKendree 82-0 and left no doubt on this Saturday afternoon in the Land of Lincoln. DU got back to work in preparation for the Bearcats and left everything out of the pitch.
"Despite being bitten by the spring injury bug, the team showed up big today after a tough week last week at Lindenwood," said head coach
Dustin Steedman. "We had some guys really step it up in both our attack and defense and it was very obvious on the scoreboard."
Man of the Match for Davenport was team captain and senior
Colin Turner. He was responsible for two trys and 10 points during the match and also showed great leadership in helping pitch a shutout. Junior
Christiaan Van der Westhuizen led the team in scoring with 22 points. Junior
Lowe Noe had a hat trick with three trys and a total of 15 points.
Takunda Makiwa crossed the line for two trys. Freshman
Thomas Symons had his first try as a Panther as did Joe Bennie. Bennie went on the score another try for 10 points.
Alessandro Mares and
Ethan Howard also was credited with a try.

The Panthers are back in action with a 7-3 overall record on Saturday, March 16 at Arkansas State for a 2 PM ET kickoff.
