Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Anthony Clark Jr., Assistant Manager of Athletic Communications

Strong second half sees Panthers top Lewis 14-10

Haynes records career-high for single-game goals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's lacrosse team closed out the week with a strong 14-10 victory over the Lewis Flyers, improving their record to 4-2 overall.

The first 30 minutes of action saw the teams tied 7-7 at the halftime break. Lewis tabbed the game's first goal at the 12:20 marker, but DU responded with a three-goal run with 4:24 remaining. Defensive lapses allowed the Flyers to knot the game at 3-3 before entering the second period.

Two goals inside the first five minutes of the second put the Panthers back in front, but Lewis' 4-2 scoring in the ensuing seven minutes ultimately closed the half in a tie.

An entirely different game unfolded in the next 30 minutes, as five unanswered goals by DU for over 12 minutes put the momentum entirely on the Panthers' side. Allowing the Flyers to tally one goal in the third and two more in the fourth, DU managed to close the game on a 7-3 run and secure their fourth victory this season.

Maddy Haynes had a career day, tallying a single-game scoring high of five goals on .778 shooting, followed by three from Brianna Rodriguez and Theadora Krueger. Blakely Malpass, Gabby Basha, and Alyssa Bird also added one goal. Rodriguez was a force throughout the game, tabbing a game-high for groundballs (six) and a team-high for draw controls (six).

The Panthers raked in 28 groundballs and were just two-of-seven in free-position shots, with Maisy Latus making 13 saves in the win.

DU has over a week off until they host Findlay on Tuesday, April 2, to cap off a three-game homestand.
