Panthers add third-straight victory, remain perfect at home

Kulynych marks career-high, Malpass tabs 100th career point

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Starting the week with an impressive win at home, the Davenport University women's lacrosse team secured a 17-10 decision over the University of Findlay.

Half a dozen Panthers stuffed the stat sheet as what seemingly began as a back-and-forth game unfolded into an offensive tear by DU. Findlay took its first and only lead of the game (2-1) at the 11:04 mark of the first period, as the Panthers would build an 8-3 lead to close out the first.

The Oilers would outscore DU 3-2 in the ensuing 15 minutes to mark the scoreboard at 10-6 going into halftime, but an entirely different game developed in the next 30 minutes of play.

A quick strike by the Panthers just under 80 seconds into the third period would highlight a monstrous performance on both ends of the pitch, with DU closing out the third on a 6-2 run to increase their lead by eight goals. The Panthers elected to play more conservatively in the final period by eating away at the game clock on each possession, with Findlay adding two more goals to DU's single score in the last 15 minutes.

Resilience in the second half over the recent stretch of games has been a testament to DU's efforts, mostly in part to the persistence on defense. Led by Theadora Krueger's four caused turnovers, the Panthers tallied nine overall while manipulating 17 turnovers by the Oilers. Maisy Latus recorded 10 saves in the victory while tying her fourth-lowest goals allowed in a game this season.

Krueger also led the offensive attack with a game-high five goals, followed by four goals each by Maddy Haynes and Blakely Malpass, a career-high three goals by Mika Kulynych, and one score by Brianna Rodriguez. Malpass (tied career-high) and Gabby Basha led the game-high for assists with three each, as Alyssa Bird added a pair to a total of 10 by the team. Malpass also recorded her 100th career point in her 42nd game in a Panther uniform.

Improving to 5-2 overall and remaining perfect at home (3-0), the Panthers head into conference action with two GLIAC matchups between Apr. 5-7 while maintaining a three-game winning streak.
