ADRIAN, Mich. - The final warmup test prior to the D1A Playoffs took place on Saturday at Adrian College. The Bulldogs were no match for the Panthers as they took control in a 39-12 victory at Docking Stadium. The Panthers showed up poised to put points on the board from the opening kickoff.
Christiaan Van der Westhuizen would be tabbed as the Man of the Match and he got things going with a hanging ball high on the sideline allowing
Joshua Peacock to make a hit that would really set the tone for the rest of the game. The game shaped up to a physical one that was one-sided in favor of Davenport.
"The more Adrian attempted to pull us out of the game with side conflicts, the more my boys dug in and took advantage of the opportunities which is reflected in the score line," said coach
Dustin Steedman.
Tamuka Kambani was highlighted for his play during lineouts and dominated that aspect of the game. The main theme of the game was poise by the Panthers and they put together skill and performance which ultimately led to the winning result. The scoring breakdown was 19 points for Van Der Westhuizen followed by
Ethan Howard's 10 points, Peacock's five points and
Garrett Hill's five points.
"I was really happy to see our young side get some time on the field to show their worth," said Steedman. "We had several guys getting their first start of their college careers. It was imperative to get some of these guys some significant game time prior to this playoff run that starts at Arkansas State on April 6."Â
