DU posts impressive results at home invitational

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport track and field squads were able to compete on their home turf for the first time this spring and enjoyed some very impressive results in the two-day event on Friday and Saturday.

Marshall Brooks placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.72 which was the fifth-best at DU all-time. Tyler Guggemos took third in the 800 meters crossing the line at 1:55.14 to capture the second-best time in school history. Rogan Melling paced himself to a second-place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:07.69). Garrett Melling had the third-best all-time performance by a Panther in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:41.12) and won the event.

During the relays, the quartet of Ethan Scholten, Solomon King, Reece Teal, and Brooks won the 4x100 (40.61) and set a new school record. They also hit the NCAA qualifying mark which is 22nd right now in Division II. The 4x400 version also took home first place as Brooks, Nik Shilling, King, and Jaden James posted a time of 3:23.09.

The field events were just as successful for the Panthers. Bryce Albrecht won the pole vault (15' 9.25") and Robert Slaughter came in second (14' 9.5"). Noah Evers won the shot put (59' 9.75") and Bryce Monroe was second (57' 2.75") while also hitting a qualifying mark which is currently 13th in Division II. Monroe also won the discus at 163' 9" and Evers came in second at 163' 8".

Erin Boettcher placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 58.94. Erin Dorn won the 1,500 meters (4:39.24) to set a new school record and Grace Buckland finished second (4:58.61). Kay-Lee McSwain placed second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.08.

The relays were also very successful with a first place in the 4x100 and second place in the 4x400. Boettcher, Julia Tuuri, Leialani Akalaonu, and Haley Esser ran 47.87 in the 4x100 to win the event. Soleil Moore, Lacy Hess, Dorn, and Esser ran 3:58.50 in the 4x400.

Annabelle Schafer won the heptathlon with 4,593 points and hit the qualifying mark which is currently 32nd in Division II. Julia Ott would finish third with 3,864 points. Madison Hernandez placed third in the hammer throw (151' 10"). Jayla Proctor claimed third place in the shot put with a toss of 39' 4.5".
