Panthers surge in second half, finish 3-3 against Northwood

Lopez nets two goals

TIFFIN, Ohio - Backed by a surge in the second half, Davenport University men's soccer remained poised against Northwood University to finish in a 3-3 draw with the Timberwolves.

The Panthers' defensive third allowed just three shots by the Wolves in the first 45 minutes. Still, Northwood took advantage of the limited scoring opportunities and took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. DU's offensive attack in the half couldn't register a goal as two shots on target contributed to nine total attempts.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, a costly defensive move by Northwood ended in a red card while creating a scoring opportunity for DU on the edge of the box. Taken by Cam Power, the junior midfielder didn't hesitate to send in a strike (65') to give the Panthers their first score of the contest, 2-1. Less than three minutes later, a well-timed cross by Power found Easton Lopez deep in the attacking third as the freshman netted his second goal of the year, 2-2.

With under five minutes left in the match, a timely cross attempt by Austin Hall set up an easy strike for Lopez just feet from the goal (86') for his second of the day and third in his career, 3-2. Minutes away from a victory, a foul by DU set up a free kick for Northwood outside of the box as Gjon Melakuqi curved a ball into the top right of the box to avoid a loss (89') in the neutral site contest.

The Panthers record now sits at 1-1-1 overall as they face No. 11 Tiffin University on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Paradiso Athletic Fields.
