Olsson's second career goal helps DU draw against Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Izabelle Olsson helped lead Davenport University women's soccer to a 1-1 draw over Ferris State University on Sept. 29 to start the 2024 series 0-0-1 against the Bulldogs.

Pressured by six unanswered shot attempts through the first 23 minutes of play, the Panthers logged their first shot of the match after a shot-on-target by Arianna Diemer was saved by FSU's Lauren Kubacki. Taylor Meadows followed it up minutes later with an attempt of her own but was met by the crossbar instead. The senior forward maintained her aggression as Meadows logged three more shots (two on goal), but the efforts fell short of a goal as the scoreboard read 0-0 at halftime.

Under six minutes into the second, the Bulldogs managed a successful run as Haley Buckman scored her first goal this season - assisted by Brinley Bell - to put Ferris State up 1-0. A concerted offensive attack by DU saw six shot attempts over the next 18 minutes of action as the Panthers held the opponent to two attempts with both off-target. After a shot by Haley Esser also hit the crossbar, a corner kick for the Panthers allowed Alexis Martinez to set up her teammates. The junior transfer's cross into the box found Olsson who leveled the match, 1-1, with her second-career goal - both goals scored against Ferris State on the road.

Managing their third draw this season for a 2-3-3 record (0-2-2 GLIAC), the Panthers are home on Sunday, Oct. 6, to host crosstown rival Grand Valley State University.
