CALEDONIA, Mich. - The fall 15s season opened up on Saturday afternoon at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex with a 32-0 win over Ohio State. It was a beautiful sunny and windy day against the Buckeyes and the Panthers came out with a vengeance. DU was able to suffocate the Ohio State offense during the first and second half of the game. The DU offensive play starved Ohio State of possession by stacking phase after phase with the wind in their face.
A couple notable performances came from
Luther Deacon who scored a pair of trys on the day.
Rayziah Taele earned the forwards "Man of the Match" honors in his first game as a Panther in his freshman season. "He really stepped up and filled some big shoes, with some quick feet, hard runs and solid defense," said head coach
Dustin Steedman.
Freshman
Joe Bennie earned Man of the Match for the backs. "Joe had a good preseason, he definitely came into camp with a focus on making himself and the team better and it showed on Saturday. Not only can he catch and pass but he puts defenses under pressure with the line he runs," said Steedman.
"While you could tell the boys were ready for their first test of the season. They were excited to put their hard work during from preseason to the test. The win today was a real team effort. We still have alot of work to do on certain areas of the field, but today I'm thankful for the efforts of these young men that got us the victory," said Steedman.
