Preview: Panthers Set to Travel to LSSU and SVSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Looking to bounce back from consecutive losses, the Davenport University women's volleyball team hits the road for a pair of conference matchups. The Panthers (7-7, 4-3 GLIAC) take on Lake Superior State on Friday (Oct. 10) and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Oct. 11).

Abby Alan is leading the Panthers' offense for the second consecutive season. The junior currently averages 3.89 points per set, ranking fifth in the GLIAC. 

Defensively, Kaitlin Jordan leads the squad in total blocks (42) ranking sixth in the conference, while Hayley Carr's 4.62 digs per set is the second highest in GLIAC. 

Making a sophomore lead in her second year with DU is Karley Pretzer, ranking second on the squad in kills (133). She is on pace to double her number of kills from her freshman season (84). 

DU has played the second toughest schedule in the conference to this point and 33rd hardest in across all of NCAA Division II.

About the Lakers
  • Last season the Lakers went 7-20 overall and 2-14 in GLIAC action.
  • Morgan Deming and Vanessa Swerdon are the top returners for LSSU in 2025. Deming averaged .84 blocks per set last season, ranking ninth in the GLIAC, while Swerdon put up 6.40 assists per set, ranking ninth in the league.
  • Under the guidance of interim head coach Abby Kaunisto.
  • LSSU has only won one set this season, coming against Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 25.
