PREVIEW: Panthers Pause Conference Play, Head to Midwest Regional Crossover

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Coming off back-to-back wins, the Davenport University women's volleyball team is heading to Hammond, Ind. for the 2025 Midwest Region Crossover Tournament. 

The tournament is taking place on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 17-18) and features schools from the Midwest Region (GLIAC, GLVC, and G-MAC), competing only against teams from opposing conferences.

Last time out, Sydney Swan had her best match as a Panther, recording a career-high 27 kills in a 3-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State. That performance tied for seventh overall in school history for kills in a single match.

Ashland (11-5, 6-3 G-MAC)

About the Eagles 
  • In 2024, the Eagles went 19-11 overall and 12-4 in the Great Midwest,  winning the East Division and qualifying for the conference tournament.
  • Junior libero Abbey Queen is the top returner for AU. Queen was an All-Great Midwest (G-MAC) first-team selection last season, following a fall in which she set a new program single-season standard for digs with 624. Outsider hitter Samatha Young was the G-MAC Freshman of the Year in 2024.
  • In 2025, Marin Dixon is second in the conference and 12th across NCAA Division II in assists per set (10.72). Queen leads the G-MAC in total digs (317).
  • Currently second in the G-MAC East standings.
  • Picked to finish first in the G-MAC East Preseason Coaches' Poll.

About the Tritons
  • Last season, the Tritons went 19-9 overall and 8-5 in conference play. Made it into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 8 seed, falling 3-0 to No. 1-seeded Ferris State in the opening round.
  • Alayna Santel and Caitlin Bishop are the top returners from last season's squad. Santel was the AVCA Midwest Region and GLVC Freshman of the Year. Bishop was an Honorable Mention All-American selection and First Team All-Conference honoree. 
  • Last week, Maggie Johnson and Bishop were named the GLVC Offensive and Setter of the Week. 
  • Currently first place in the GLVC standings. Have won six straight matches heading into the crossover tournament.
  • Picked to finish fourth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
