CALEDONIA, Mich. — Alexis Martinez put on a playmaking clinic, assisting on both goals as Davenport University earned a 2-0 win over Purdue Northwest on Friday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers' defense stood tall behind recent GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week,
Elizabeth Wolter, who recorded seven saves to lock in another shutout. Davenport capitalized on its opportunities, striking once in each half to secure the victory.
The Panthers came out strong in the first half, keeping the pressure on with a string of corner kicks and sharp offensive movement. The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when
Madison Fant buried a chance off a perfect feed from Martinez, giving DU a 1-0 lead. Wolter's steady presence in goal denied multiple Purdue Northwest attempts, helping Davenport maintain its one-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Davenport carried its energy into the second half, continuing to control possession and pace. The Panthers sealed the win late when
Madelyn Schamanek found the back of the net in the 80th minute — again assisted by Martinez — to double the lead. Wolter came up clutch down the stretch, making key saves in the 67th and 75th minutes to preserve the clean sheet and secure the home win.
For Purdue Northwest, goalkeeper Poppy Jackson battled through a full 90 minutes, making three saves against 15 shots faced. Addison Thomas led the Pride with four shots, including three on goal, while Mia Davis added four more attempts with two on frame.
Wolter finished with seven saves for her latest shutout performance. Fant tallied the game-winner on her lone shot, while Martinez's two assists anchored Davenport's offensive rhythm.
Josie Wilcox led the team with four shot attempts as the Panthers improved their momentum heading into the weekend.
Davenport will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 26, hosting Parkside at 2 PM. It will be a special afternoon in Caledonia, as the program celebrates nine seniors in a pregame ceremony 25 minutes before kickoff.
