Panthers Bounce Back with 3-0 Win Over PNW

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Abby Alan led the Davenport University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Purdue Northwest on Friday afternoon at the DU Student Center. The junior finished with 19 kills on 48 attempts, recording a hitting percentage of .375 and contributing a total of 19.5 points.

DU outperformed PNW in nearly every major statistical category, finishing with more team points, kills, aces, blocks, assists and digs.

The first set began with Davenport establishing early control, capitalizing on a Purdue Northwest attack error to secure the opening point. A brief exchange of points followed until Amelia Werner and Abby Alan sparked a 5-point run, widening Davenport's lead to 8-3. Key contributions from Madison Berry, who assisted on multiple kills, helped maintain the momentum. As the set progressed, the Panthers continued to build on their lead with consistent scoring and defensive stops, highlighted by blocks from Kaitlin Jordan and Madison Berry. Despite a few service errors, Davenport's efficient offense, led by Alan's crucial attacks, kept the Pride at bay. The set concluded with Davenport securing a 25-17 victory, giving DU a 1-0 lead.

Davenport capitalized on an early lead in the second set with a kill from Alan assisted by Berry, setting the tone for a competitive set.  Key plays included a service ace by Maggie Juncaj and a block by Berry and Jordan that helped Davenport regain momentum. Closing the set, Davenport surged ahead with a series of critical points, including a kill by Alan and a final attack error by the Pride's Arra Cottrell, securing a 25-21 finish.

A series of exchanges kept the score tight early in the third set until a kill by Werner and a service ace by Frederick leveled the score at 7-7. DU continued to press, with Alan leading a surge with multiple kills, assisted by Berry, to pull ahead 15-13. Davenport extended their lead with a string of points, including an attack error by the Pride and a kill by Morgan Tydings, to reach a comfortable 20-14 advantage. Alan secured the final kill, sealing the set with a 25-18 victory.

Pretzer finished with seven kills while swinging at a .353 percent clip. Jordan and Werner each added six kills, while Hayley Carr had a match-high 25 digs. Berry recorded her eighth double-double of the season, notching 33 assists and 10 digs.
