CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport fell to Roosevelt University 2-1 on Thursday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers found the net in the second half, but the Lakers secured the win with goals in each half. Despite Davenport's 12 shots, including five on goal, Roosevelt's defense held strong, with their goalkeeper making four saves.
Davenport faced early adversity in the first half, going a man down after
Austin Hall received a red card in the 6th minute. Goalkeeper
Beau Hudd provided a spark by denying a penalty attempt from Noah Vasilev, but the Lakers capitalized soon after when Caco Fernandez scored in the 9th minute. The Panthers generated four shots and three corner kicks in the opening frame but entered halftime trailing 1-0.
After the break, Davenport equalized in the 63rd minute when
Ryan Sheffer buried a goal off an assist from
Charlie Davis, capping off a stretch of sustained offensive pressure. Roosevelt, however, answered in the 82nd minute as Fynn Mewes scored from a Krystian Niziolek assist, reclaiming the lead. Despite a late push, including an 89th-minute corner, Davenport couldn't find another breakthrough, and the Lakers held on for the 2-1 victory.
The Panthers return to action Sunday, Oct. 5, hosting Purdue Northwest at 2 p.m. in Caledonia on the Panthers home turf.
