Panthers Earn Hard-Fought Draw Against Purdue Northwest

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport University and Purdue University Northwest played to a 2-2 draw on Sunday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. Both teams exchanged goals in each half, with Davenport registering nine shots, four on target. Despite Purdue Northwest's 15 shots, Davenport's goalkeeper made six saves, including five in a key first-half performance. Each team received two yellow cards, contributing to a combined 33 fouls in a physical matchup.
 
Davenport and Purdue Northwest each found the net once in a balanced first half, concluding with a 1-1 score. Purdue Northwest initially took the lead in the 17th minute with a goal by Rami Hassan Zantout, assisted by Miguel Rodriguez de la Garza. Davenport responded in the 26th minute when Payton Wright scored off an assist from Charlie Davis. Despite both teams creating chances, with Purdue Northwest's Landon Potts being denied multiple times by Jacob Lee, the half ended level.
 
Davenport took the lead in the 68th minute as Ryan Sheffer capitalized on a corner kick with an assist from Max Wilhelm, but Purdue Northwest equalized in the 85th minute with a goal by Zantout, assisted by Aloe Berassa. The second half was marked by aggressive play, with Purdue Northwest committing nine fouls and receiving two yellow cards, while Davenport earned one yellow card and seven fouls. The half ended with a 2-2 score.
 
Lee recorded six saves in his 90 minutes as goalkeeper. Davis contributed with an assist, adding to the team's offensive efforts. Wright scored a goal, converting his only shot on target. Sheffer also found the back of the net with his lone shot, matching Wright's scoring impact.
 
Zantout contributed significantly for Purdue Northwest with one goal and four shots on goal from a total of five shots. Potts also found the back of the net, recording five shots with three on target. Rodriguez de la Garza provided the team's only assist while taking one shot. In goal, Mateus Baptista de Souza made two saves, facing nine shots and allowing two goals.
 
In their next game, Davenport will travel to Kenosha, Wis., to take on Parkside on October 10. The match is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
