Penalty Kick Decides Match as Davenport Falls to Pride

HAMMOND, Ind. — Purdue Northwest defeated Davenport 1-0 on Friday at Dowling Park. The Pride struck in the first half with a penalty kick and held strong defensively to secure the shutout, despite Davenport recording 10 shots with one on target.

The first half opened with Davenport goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter in net. Purdue Northwest applied early pressure, earning multiple shots and corners before breaking through in the 19th minute. Mia Davis converted a penalty kick to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage. Davenport looked to respond with efforts from Autumn Wakefield and Josie Wilcox, along with a corner kick in the 23rd minute, but the Panthers were unable to find the equalizer before halftime.

After the break, Davenport pushed forward with five second-half shots and five corner kicks, highlighted by attempts from Natalie Vance and Claire Breault. The Panthers maintained offensive pressure late, including a shot on goal by Shay Norden in the 89th minute, but PNW goalkeeper Poppy Jackson came up with the save to preserve the clean sheet.

Wolter finished with three saves on 10 shots faced, anchoring Davenport's defense across 90 minutes of play. Offensively, Norden paced the Panthers with two shots, including one on goal, while Wakefield and Wilcox each added two attempts.

For Purdue Northwest, Jackson recorded one save in the shutout. Davis provided the lone goal of the match and led the Pride attack with two shots on target.

Davenport will return to action next week, hosting Roosevelt on Thursday, Oct. 10, in Caledonia, Mich., with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
