Preview: Panthers Head Across Town for GLIAC Quarterfinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - With the regular season coming to a close, the Davenport University women's volleyball team enters the GLIAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, heading to No. 4 seed GVSU for the opening round.

The winner will advance to the semifinals and play the winner of Ferris State (No. 1 seed) and Purdue Northwest (No. 8 seed).

Last weekend, Kaitlin Jordan and Karley Pretzer had career matches. Jordan tallied a career-high 16 kills to lead DU to a 3-1 victory over Roosevelt in her final home match.

Pretzer tied a career-high with 17 kills against Parkside in a five-set thriller which the Panthers reverse-swept the Rangers.

About the Lakers
  • Last season, the Lakers finished 28-4 overall, going 14-2 in GLIAC competitions. Advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinals, falling 3-2 to Findlay in Big Rapids, Mich.
  • Lost their top player from a season ago, Jordyn Gates, who was an AVCA All-American performer.
  • Return four All-GLIAC honorees from a season ago: Kendall Stover (First Team), Paige Sanders (Second Team), Meghan O'Sullivan (Second Team) and Brianna Stawski (Honorable Mention). Sanders has been sidelined for the entirety of the season after suffering an injury prior to the season-opener in Colorado.
  • GVSU has earned conference of the week honors five times this season (four different student-athletes). Gabby Orlet was named Setter of the Week twice.
  • Meghan O'Sullivan ranks second in the nation in triple-doubles (six). 
  • As a team, the Lakers rank 36th in NCAA Division II and first in the conference in blocks per set (2.28).
  • In their final weekend of the regular season, GVSU fell 3-1 to Wayne State before defeating Purdue Northwest 3-0 in the regular season finale.
  • Picked to finish first in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed.
