Panthers Split Opening Matches of Spring Break Trip

Orlando, Fla. - The Davenport University women's tennis team split the opening matches of its annual spring break trip in Orlando, Fla. The Panthers (3-5, 0-0 GLIAC) defeated Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 7-0 on Sunday (Feb. 23) and fell to Southeastern University (No. 5 NAIA) on Tuesday (Feb. 25) 6-1.

How it Happened
DU dominated its first match of the week, not dropping a single set in the match. Sienna Opray and Sky Vandeleur (No. 1 doubles), as well as Valentina Moreno and Erin Hack (No. 3 doubles), secured convincing 6-0 victories over their opponents. Slotted at No.2 doubles, Amy Bloch and Lotte Federski won their match 6-1.

In singles action, Opray (No. 1), Hack (No. 5) and Moreno (No. 6) all finished with dominating 6-0, 6-0 wins. Playing at No. 2 singles, Bloch won her match 6-2, 6-0, while Vandeleur finished with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Rounding things out for the Panthers was Federski, winning the No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-1.

How it Happened
Matching up against the No. 5 team in NAIA, the Panthers dropped all three doubles matches, falling behind 1-0 in the match. 

Opray secured the lone point for Davenport, taking a 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 victory at No. 1 singles. Bloch (No. 2) and Federski (No. 4) each went three sets with their opponents, but could not secure the victory.
