Panthers Fall 7-6 in G-MAC Opener

WHEELING, W.V. - The Davenport University men's lacrosse team dropped its first conference game of the season 7-6 to Wheeling on Saturday (March 1) afternoon at Bishop Schmitt Field.

The Panthers (0-4, 0-1 G-MAC) held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, as Luke Fritz and Charley Fritz each found the back of the net once in the opening 15 minutes of action. However, the Cardinals (2-1, 1-0 G-MAC) responded with four unanswered goals in the second period, before Charlie Fritz scored his second goal of the contest off an assist from Luke Fritz. 

After DU entered halftime down by one goal (4-3), Luke Eichbauer 3:12 into the second half to knot the score at four apiece. 

Dawson Gillette put the Panthers on top 6-5 with an unassisted goal at the end of the third period, marking his first goal of the 2025 season.

Wheeling held Davenport scoreless in the final period and scored the last goal of the game in the closing seconds to take down the Panthers as time expired.

Luke Fritz led the way for the Panthers with two goals and an assist, while Charlie Fritz added two goals scored in the loss.

In the net, Antonio Hart played the entire game for DU, racking up 13 saves overall.
