Panthers Drop Pair of Games to William Jewell on Thursday

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Davenport University softball team concluded its time in Missouri on Thursday afternoon, falling twice to William Jewell at Cardinal Field. The Panthers (9-9, 0-0 GLIAC) finished the two-day series 1-3 against the Cardinals (14-11, 2-2 GLVC).

Game One
Result: L, 5-1
How it Happened
After hitting a single through the right side, Brooke Bernt scored the first run of the game in the opening inning, giving DU a 1-0 advantage. Bernt notched her second single of the game at the top of the third but was unable to round the bases. However, Jewell tied the game at one apiece in the bottom of the third.

With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth and the Cards threatening to score, Hailey Whisman struck out Makenna Cerny with two outs on the board to get DU out of the inning still tied 1-1.

The William Jewell offense scored three of its five runs in the fifth inning and the Panthers were unable to answer.

Whisman pitched all six innings, delivering eight strikeouts and only allowing three earned runs.

Bernt led the DU offense with three hits and one run scored. Ally Prasnjak added a hit in the loss for the Panthers.

Game Two
Result: L, 9-0 (6 Inn.)
How it Happened
Despite the loss, Savanna Disbrow had a standout performance at the plate for DU. The senior finished the game batting a perfect 3-for-3. Prasnjak added a hit in the loss for Davenport.

In the circle, two pitcher saw time in the circle; Hannah Tahaney and Whisman.Tahaney pitched the opening 3.2 innings while Whisman took over for the final 2.0 innings.

The Panthers will now prep for their home opener on Sunday (March 16), which begins at 1 p.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich.
