GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's lacrosse team is in a great spot as they embark upon GLIAC play this weekend. The Panthers have won five straight games, their longest winning streak since they won six in a row in March 2022. During the win streak, the team's offense and defense have been stellar as they outscored their opponents, 78-33.
The Panthers took care of Thomas More 18-7 back on Mar. 22 in their home opener after six straight away games to start the season. DU improved to 5-2 overall and distanced themselves in the second quarter by outscoring the Saints 10-1 to lead 14-2 at halftime.
Rachel Livak got her first start of the season in goal and finished with six saves.
Ele Darmofal was back on the field for the first time since Mar. 9, 2024 due to injury and scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter.
Jade Remacle got to play in the offensive end and scored her first two goals of the season in the second half.
Maddy Haynes led the team with four goals on six shots on goal. She scored multiple goals in five straight games and scored 17 goals during that span.
Blakely Malpass added three goals, three ground balls, and two draw controls. She has scored in every game this season and has a stellar 75 percent shot on goal percentage. She is also 8-of-9 in free-position attempts this season, which ranks third in Division II. Davenport as a team currently ranks fifth in Division II in free-position percentage (68.9) and seventh in shot percentage (51.8).
Northern Michigan is having a fine season at 6-3 overall and they are 1-0 in the GLIAC after defeating newcomer Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, Mar. 23 (20-1). They began the season 3-0 with convincing wins over Walsh (19-6), UW-Stout (18-1), and UW-La Crosse (18-8). Two of their three losses have come against nationally-ranked teams in Maryville and UIndy. Hannah Jabas led the Wildcats with six goals against the Cardinals four days ago. She tied her season high in goals and currently has 20 this season. Sophie Langsdale notched four goals on five shots on goal with three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Taylor Priestley added three goals, two assists with four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Josie Lakosky finished with two goals, two assists, and five draw controls. The Wildcats rank eighth in Division II in draw control percentage (61.3) and are No. 16 in scoring margin (5.78).
Concordia St. Paul is an affiliate member of the GLIAC in women's lacrosse and currently sport a 5-4 record with a 1-0 GLIAC mark. They opened up conference play on Friday, Mar. 21 with a 18-3 win at Saginaw Valley State. That victory snapped a two-game losing skid with non-conference losses against Missouri Western (12-5) and Quincy (14-13 OT). Susie Monson, Sydney Smith, and Shelby Hansen had three goals in the win over the Cardinals. Jenna Hamann led the team with three assists. Kaci Kotschevar had a four-point day with two goals and two assists. Katie Colleran led the squad with nine ground balls and also made six saves in goal. Kaysawn Carlson led the team with five draw controls.
