ST. PAUL, Minn. - The women's lacrosse team played a back-and-forth game on Sunday at Concordia St. Paul in a 11-9 loss to the Bears. The Bears led by no more than three goals on two different occasions, once in each half of play. The lead changed hands in the first quarter as Anna Fisher for the Bears had herself a game. She scored six times in the first half alone, but was game planned differently in the second half and was held off the board.
Maddy Haynes scored twice in the first half and added another goal early in the fourth quarter.
Gabby Basha also scored three times - once in the first, third, and fourth quarters. The game was 6-4 at halftime in favor of CSP as Fisher's sixth goal came with one second left until half.
Blakely Malpass and
Alyssa Bird each scored in the third quarter for the Panthers. Haynes and Basha scored back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter to make it 10-9 with 6:59 to play. Sara Kaiser scored the game's last goal for CSP with 4:27 to go.
The game was extremely tight in the stat categories as well. The Panthers had 28 total shots compared to 27 for the Bears. Davenport led 21-17 in ground balls and the biggest discrepancy was draw controls in which Concordia St. Paul led 15-8. Haynes finished with four points and had five shots on goal. Malpass had a pair of assists for three points.
Lauryn Hansen was credited with two assists.
Rachel Livak led the team with nine ground balls and also had 11 saves in goal.
