Panthers Roll Past Senators on Senior Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's lacrosse team won its fourth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon at the DU Turf Field, taking down Davis & Elkins 26-4 on senior day. 11 different Panthers found the back of the net in the dominating victory.

Logan Flaherty set a new school record for ground balls in a single game, scooping up 21 in the win for the Panthers (6-6, 6-1 G-MAC). The junior was also nearly perfect in face-offs, 27-for-31 in the contest.

Heading into halftime, the Panthers held a convincing 12-0 lead. Charlie Fritz found Luke Fritz who scored the final goal of the half with 1:42 remaining in the second period to cap off the nearly flawless opening 30 minutes.

The impressive run continued, as DU expanded its lead to 14-0 with goals by Charlie Fritz and Dylan Fallon in the opening five minutes of the second half. The Senators (2-13, 1-6 G-MAC) broke their cold spell five minutes into the third period, scoring their first goal of the game

With 7:04 remaining in the third period, Trenton Wattles scored his first goal of the season, pushing the DU advantage to 16 (19-3).

In the closing seconds of the game, Charlie Fritz put his athleticism on display. The sophomore held possession of the ball nearly the entire shot clock, evading the D&E defenders. With just a few seconds remaining on the shot clock, he circled around the left side of the net and fired the ball past the goalie with 14 on the clock, then doing a backflip celebration to close out the dominating victory.

Charlie Fritz finished with a career-high six points, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists to lead the Panthers' offense. Dawson Gillette and Jayden Ashley each added five points in the win, marking a new career-high for Gillette. Luke Fritz finished the game with three goals, an assist and two ground balls. Wattles scored three goals for Davenport, a new career-high for the senior.

Antonio Hart secured the win in net for the Panthers, recording six saves in over 40 minutes of action, only allowing two goals.
