Panthers Take Down Huskies, Fall to Lakers

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University women's tennis team split its matches over the weekend, defeating Michigan Tech on Friday before Falling to Lake Superior State on Saturday.

Match One vs. Michigan Tech
Result: W, 5-2
How it Happened
The Panthers took all three doubles matches to secure the point and a 1-0 lead in the match. Sienna Opray and Skye Vandeleur (No. 1) secured a 6-3 victory. Amy Bloch and Lotte Federski (No. 2) won 7-6 (7), while Erin Hack and Kumiko Yamaguchi took home a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Vandeleur (No. 3), Yamaguchi (No. 4) and Valentina Moreno (No. 6) all won their matches in three sets. Vandeleur finished with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory, while Yamaguchi secured a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. Rounding things out, Moreno won 4-6, 7-6, 10-7.

The win marked the Panther's third conference victory of the season.

How it Happened
Bloch and Federski secured a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles for the Panthers. However, Davenport could not clinch the doubles point and went into singles play down 1-0.

Bloch also found success in singles, winning her matchup 6-3, 7-6 slotted at the No. 2 position. Federski also maintained her winning ways in singles play at No. 5, securing a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory. Vandeleur notched the final point for DU at No. 3 singles, winning in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday (April 15) at 5 p.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich.
