GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's lacrosse team is down to the regular season's final two games and will face a pair of Mid-Michigan schools. DU will go out of conference to face G-MAC member Northwood University in their home finale on Wednesday at 5:00 PM and then wrap up GLIAC play at Saginaw Valley State on Friday at 1:00 PM. The Panthers enter this week's competition with an overall record of 7-7 and they are 2-5 in the GLIAC. In their only action last week, the Panthers fell 17-6 at No. 23 Grand Valley State.
Brianna Rodriguez and
Gabby Basha each scored a pair of goals.
Ele Darmofal and
Alyssa Bird also scored a goal for DU. The Lakers were able to keep the team's top three goal scorers in
Blakely Malpass,
Maddy Haynes, and
Theadora Krueger out of the scoring column. Basha led the team with six total shots with four on goal. Krueger led the team with four ground balls and also caused four turnovers.
Cassidy Sanders led the team with three draw controls.
Zoe Cassell played in the first half in goal and made two saves.
Rachel Livak played in the second half in goal and made three saves.
Haynes is sitting on 99 career goals and will become the 16th Panther to accomplish 100 career goals on her next tally. Haynes has accumulated 131 career points in 61 games with 99 goals and 32 assists. She ranks fourth all-time at DU in caused turnovers per game (1.21), fifth in total caused turnovers (74), tied for sixth in free-position goals (28), and tied for 10th in goals per game (1.62). Malpass has played in 64 games and has tallied 165 career points with 127 goals and 38 assists. She ranks tied for fourth all-time at DU in free-position goals (33), seventh in shots per game (4.56), seventh in shots on goal per game (3.47), eighth in shots on goal (222), ninth in goals (127), and ninth in goals per game (1.98). Krueger has played in 64 games and has 78 career points with 65 goals and 13 assists. She ranks first all-time at DU with 94 caused turnovers, seventh in draw controls (121), and ninth in ground balls (135).
Northwood and Davenport will be playing for the first time and the Timberwolves come into the contest with an overall record of 6-8 and 3-5 in the G-MAC. The young program picked up its first-ever win back on Feb. 27, 2025 against Saginaw Valley State by a final score of 20-9. Northwood has won their last two games coming against Tiffin (18-17) on Apr. 19 and Ursuline (23-5) on Apr. 21. Sam Peterson led the T-Wolves with five goals and also had one assist. Taylor Murrell and Montana Chuba each contributed four goals. Chuba had six shots on goal, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Emma Volpe also had three goals on four shots on net. Gabby Wilson had 15 draw controls and two assists. NU went 21-of-28 for the game in draw controls. Chuba ranks second in the G-MAC in goals per game (3.29) this season. She also leads the league with 7.71 shots per game. Danica Swistun is currently second in the G-MAC with 8.91 saves per game. Wilson ranks third in the league with 4.0 ground balls per game.
Saginaw Valley State will play Davenport on Friday and then face Grand Valley State on Sunday to wrap up their season. The Cardinals are still searching for that first win in program history at 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the GLIAC. Davenport defeated SVSU earlier this season by a score of 22-6 back on Apr. 6 in Grand Rapids. Malpass scored five times on six shots on goal in that one. A total of nine different Panthers scored a goal in the contest. Davenport was able to win 24-of-32 draws and took 33 shots compared to 11 for SVSU. Gabby Parker leads the team this season with 18 goals on 29 shots on goal (70.7 percent). Lainey Lasky leads the Cardinals with five assists and also has 21 draw controls. Mikaila Stone has played every minute in net for SVSU this season with 113 saves in 660 minutes.
