UNIV. CENTER, Mich. - The Davenport women's lacrosse team improved to 9-7 overall and 3-5 in the GLIAC with a 23-5 road win at Saginaw Valley State to end the regular season. The Panthers are currently in fourth place in the GLIAC standings and will need to await tomorrow's result between Northern Michigan and Concordia-St. Paul to determine GLIAC Tournament seeding.
The Panthers found themselves down 2-0 early after goals by Gabby Parker and Annelle Dykema for the Cardinals. DU then began to settle in and scored the next six goals.
Theadora Krueger got things going at the 11:22 mark from
Gabby Basha.
Alyssa Bird tied the game up at 10:21 unassisted.
Maddy Haynes scored her 33rd goal of the season at 9:09 from
Ele Darmofal. Darmofal scored her 17th goal of the season at 7:40 from Haynes for the 4-2 lead. Basha got into the act with her 19th goal of the season at 6:05 from
Blakely Malpass. Haynes notched her second goal of the game at 4:38 from
Mika Kulynych to build the four-goal cushion.
Davenport would eventually take a 14-4 lead at halftime. They would shutout the Cardinals in the third quarter and allow just one goal in the fourth quarter. Davenport held a 38-8 advantage in total shots, including 26-5 on goal. DU turned it over just six times and caused seven of the 18 SVSU turnovers. Haynes finished with a team-high four goals and one assist.
Brianna Rodriguez tallied three goals and five draw controls. Malpass ended with two goals and three assists. Basha contributed two goals and one assist. 12 different Panthers scored in the contest as
Ali-Ray Hanlon scored her second and third goals of the season.
