Preview: Panthers Return Home, Host Hampton Inn and Suites Downtown Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  After spending its opening weekend on the west coast in Golden, Colo. the Davenport University women's volleyball team returns home for its home opener, co-hosting the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic with Grand Valley State. There will be a total of six games played at the DU Student Center, three of which will feature the home Panthers (2-2, 0-0 GLIAC).

What to Watch
Abby Alan picked up where she left off a season ago, earning Oredigger Classic All-Tournament Team honors after her performance last weekend. Through four matches, she leads the squad in kills per set (3.27) and service aces (10), while ranking second in kills (49). 

Leading the team in kills through four matches is Karley Pretzer, who is looking to have a breakout sophomore campaign. In the season opener, Pretzer notched a career-high 17 kills to help guide the Panthers to a 3-1 victory. In the final match of last weekend, she once again reached the 17 kill mark and helped DU take down Colorado Christian 3-1.

Freshman Madison Berry has made an instant impact, leading the squad in assists with 161 so far. In her first collegiate game last weekend, Berry distributed a team-high 51 assists.

About the Dragons
  • Last season, Tiffin went 13-14 overall and 7-8 in conference action. Fell in the G-MAC quarterfinals to Hillsdale.
  • Under the guidance of first year head coach Cary Clark, who came to the Dragons from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
  • Only win of the season came in four sets against Thomas More last Friday (Sept. 5). Fell to No. 13 Concordia-St.Paul.
  • Maggie Pavlansky is orchestrating the TU offense in 2025, leading the squad in assists (94). A season ago, she ranked second on the squad with 348.
  • Picked to finish fourth in the G-MAC North Division.

Findlay (2-1, 0-0 G-MAC)

Last Meeting: Davenport defeated Findlay 3-2 in Hammond, Ind. 
About the Oilers
  • Last season, Tiffin went 13-14 overall and 7-8 in conference action. Fell in the G-MAC quarterfinals to Hillsdale.
  • Opened the season as the No. 24-ranked team in NCAA Division II. Only loss of the season came to No. 10 Tampa 3-1 in four sets on Saturday (Sept. 6).
  • Senior Makenna Belcher was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week last week. She finished with 43 kills, averaging 3.91 kills per set all while hitting .305.
  • Picked first in G-MAC North Division Preseason Coaches Poll.

About the Knights
  • Finished last season 26-8 overall and 13-1 in conference action. Advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, before falling to No. 3 Angelo State in five sets.
  • Only loss of the 2025 season came to No. 1 Lynn. Have won three consecutive matches since. 
  • Alexis Fowler was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on Sept. 8. She delivered a career-high 30 digs in a five-set win over Adelphi and added 17 more in a four-set victory over Assumption. She also contributed five aces, 12 assists, and a .930 serve-receive percentage on 100 attempts.
  • Ranked No. 16 in the most recent AVCA top-25.
