Ferris State took the lead in the first half with the only goal of the game, holding on through Davenport's 90-minute effort. Both teams committed 13 fouls, indicating a physical battle throughout. The first half featured an early defensive stand by Davenport as Gauthier made a critical save in the third minute against Ferris State's Sampson. However, Sampson managed to find the net in the eighth minute, assisted by Welch, to give Ferris State a 1-0 lead. Despite attempts from Ella Chatfield and Madelyn Schamanek, both of whom shot high and wide, Davenport was unable to equalize before the end of the half.
