Davenport Outshoots Cardinals but Falls 2-1 on the Road

SAGINAW, Mich. — Saginaw Valley prevailed over Davenport 2-1 on Sunday at Robert C. Braddock Field. The Panthers struck in the second half to cut the deficit, but the Cardinals' two first-half goals proved to be the difference. Despite outshooting Saginaw Valley 12-9, Davenport was unable to find the equalizer.

The match opened with Davenport goalkeeper Bailey Gauthier making a key save to keep the game level. The Panthers pressed early with chances from Natalie Vance and Megan Malek, but the Cardinals' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz, held firm. Saginaw Valley capitalized on its opportunities as Madi Bajis scored in the 9th minute, followed by a goal from Sophia Zalucki in the 32nd. Davenport generated four corner kicks in the half but couldn't convert, heading into the break trailing 2-0.

Davenport responded in the second half with renewed energy. The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Madelyn Schamanek scored off an assist from Maddy Bettys to make it 2-1. Just minutes earlier, Ella Chatfield forced a save from Garbarz in the 58th minute. The Panthers continued to push, with Claire Breault's late strike rattling the crossbar in the 87th minute, but they ultimately ran out of time.

Schamanek finished with one goal on her lone shot attempt, while Bettys added an assist and one shot. Vance led the team with three shots, including two on goal. Gauthier tallied one save while facing nine shots. Both teams saw physical play down the stretch, with Chatfield receiving a yellow card and Saginaw Valley picking up multiple fouls and cautions in the final half.
