Cardinals Top Panthers 2-0 in GLIAC Clash

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Saginaw Valley State University defeated Davenport University 2-0 on Wednesday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Cardinals outshot the Panthers 18-4, marking a dominant performance in the GLIAC matchup.

The first half commenced with Beau Hudd in goal for Davenport, who promptly made critical saves, including stops against Matty Telfer in the opening minutes. Despite the Panthers' firm defensive efforts, the Cardinals maintained pressure with multiple shot attempts, ultimately leading to Adrian Mahoney scoring in the 42nd minute, assisted by Taro Aboudakary. The half concluded with Saginaw Valley holding a 1-0 lead, as Davenport's defense aimed to regroup for the second half.

The second half began with Davenport seeking to overturn the deficit, but the Cardinals defensive efforts held firm. Despite several corner opportunities, Davenport was unable to capitalize.

As the half progressed, the Cardinals maintained pressure, culminating in a goal by Telfer in the 85th minute, assisted by Aboudakary, extending their lead. Hudd made a crucial save earlier to keep Davenport in contention, but the home side was unable to find the back of the net. The half closed with Saginaw Valley leading 2-0, and Davenport unable to break through the visitor's defense.

Hudd made five saves over 90 minutes, facing 18 shots and allowing two goals for the Panthers. Postlewait contributed to the offensive efforts with two shots, including one on goal. Matyunas added a shot on goal, maintaining pressure on the opposing defense.
