ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Davenport men's ACHA Division I hockey team completed a season sweep of Michigan-Dearborn on Tuesday night at the Allen Park Civic Center with a 5-1 victory over the Wolverines. The Panthers increased their win total to 14 for the season and won their third straight game. The second period was the turning point with three goals in a span of five minutes.
Jack Kelly scored the first two goals for Davenport coming at 17:46 of the first period from
Brendan Bauer and 1:32 of the second period from
Jake Alton and
Bryan Fenlon.
Robert McLaughlin made it 3-0 at 2:30 from
Ryder McMillen and
Luke Mikkola. The lead grew to 4-0 at 6:06 as DU got a power play goal from
Peter Stojcevski with Alton getting his second assist of the game. UM-Dearborn finally got on the board on the power play at 12:34 with Zak Januskowski credited with the goal and assists coming from Caleb Cathcart and Bailey Byrd.
Davenport concluded the scoring in the third period at 8:27 as McMillen got the goal from
Dylan Jouppi and
Simon Davidson.
Kyler Lowden made 33 saves in net for the Panthers in a stellar performance. DU finished with 43 shots on goal and were 1-of-4 on the power play. The team will now focus their attention to Grand Valley State. They play the Lakers on Friday, Jan. 16 in Hudsonville at Griff's Georgetown before coming back home to Patterson Ice Center on Saturday, Jan. 17.
