Panthers Unable to Break Through at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. — Davenport stayed within striking distance throughout Sunday's match at Wis.-Parkside, but the Panthers couldn't find the equalizer in a 1-0 loss. Despite trailing early, Davenport continued to push forward and created chances down the stretch, finishing with 11 shots, including four on goal.

Parkside struck first in the ninth minute when Ava Rizzitano found the back of the net. Davenport looked to respond immediately, with Sofia Capoccia putting a shot on goal before the Panthers earned a corner and generated three shots over the next two minutes. Elizabeth Wolter kept Davenport within one with five saves, sending the Panthers into halftime trailing by just a goal.

Davenport continued to search for an opening after the break. Ella Chatfield put a shot on frame in the 59th minute, and Audrey Muterspaugh followed with two attempts after a corner kick in the 66th minute. The Panthers kept working for a late breakthrough, earning another corner and creating opportunities through Autumn Wakefield, who recorded two shots. Wolter came up with another save in the 89th minute as Wis.-Parkside looked to add to its lead, keeping the deficit at one until the final whistle.

Wolter finished with six saves in 90 minutes in goal, while Muterspaugh led Davenport with three shots.

Up next, the Panthers return home Friday, Oct. 23, to host Roosevelt at 3 p.m. in Caledonia, Mich.
