Panthers Close Regular Season With Shutout of Michigan Tech

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport women's soccer controlled the pace Saturday, closing out the regular season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Michigan Tech. The Panthers dictated play for much of the contest, building a two-goal lead before halftime and adding another in the second half to finish the regular season at 10-4-4 overall and 8-4-2 in GLIAC play.

Isabella Workman set the tone early, finding the back of the net at 9:50 to give Davenport the lead. The Panthers continued to control possession and create opportunities, keeping the pressure on the Michigan Tech defense. That pressure paid off again at 30:20 when Kyle Shelton connected on Madison Fant's assist for her first goal of the season, sending Davenport into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Davenport carried that momentum into the second half, continuing to move the ball and generate scoring chances. At 52:47, Ella Chatfield extended Davenport's lead to 3-0. Jada Spillers sent the ball forward from near midfield, and Autumn Wakefield redirected it with a light touch to Chatfield, who finished the play with a goal. The Panthers maintained their offensive pressure throughout the half, recording four shots in the opening 15 minutes while limiting Michigan Tech's opportunities to respond.

The Panthers' control extended to the defensive end, where they held Michigan Tech to just one shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Calcamuggio played all 90 minutes, making one save to record her second shutout in her second start of the season.

Workman led Davenport with four shots, all on goal, while Shelton and Chatfield each scored on their only shot attempts. The victory capped a strong regular season for the Panthers, who finished with 10 wins and head into the GLIAC Tournament looking to carry that momentum into postseason play.
