CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport earned a 1-0 win over Wayne State on Sunday, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season on Senior Day.
Natalie Vance scored in the fifth minute, and
Elizabeth Wolter made seven saves to secure the shutout.
Vance put Davenport on the board at 4 with an assist from Sofia Capoccia. The senior scored her first goal of the season to give the Panthers an early lead.
Wayne State outshot Davenport 9-4 in the first half and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks, but Wolter made two saves to keep the Warriors off the board heading into halftime.
Davenport came out with more chances in the second half, recording eight shots. Capoccia had an attempt saved following back-to-back corner kicks, while the Panthers continued to protect their one-goal lead. Wayne State pushed for an equalizer late, but Wolter made five second-half saves, including a stop on a penalty kick, to preserve the win.
Vance finished with the game-winning goal on her only shot, while Capoccia added the assist and two shots. Autumn Wakefield led Davenport with three shots. Wolter played all 90 minutes and finished with seven saves and a shutout.
Davenport returns to action Friday, Oct. 9, traveling to Big Rapids, Mich., to face Ferris State at 1 p.m.
