GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's basketball team defeated Roosevelt 81-59 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 13-11 overall and 7-9 in the GLIAC. Davenport swept the season series against Roosevelt and had one of their best shooting games of the season. DU shot 52.5 percent and connected on eight three-pointers. The Panthers were also 11-of-17 at the foul line for the game. Roosevelt shot 43.8 percent overall, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) behind the arc. RU made 11-of-14 at the foul line.
Ken Walker led the team in scoring with 16 points after just four points in the first half. Walker took just nine shots and his teammates were given more open looks. Walker was 6-of-6 at the foul line and played 34 minutes.
Curtis Jackson came off the bench to score 13 points in 20 minutes.
Marshaun Flakes netted 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
Bernie Varnesdeel got his first start and logged a season-high 19 minutes. He registered a season-high four assists to go with a steal and a triple.
Aidan Moon contributed eight points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Dylan Smith led the team with nine rebounds and also had seven points, and tied a season-high with four assists.
DU led for 35:02 of the contest, which featured six lead changes and three ties. The DU bench outscored the Laker bench 36-9.Â
