Schwanke, Empie Lead DU to Breakthrough Victory

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – After a tough start to the day, Davenport bounced back, splitting Saturday's action with a 9-4 win over Bridgeport after falling 4-1 to St. Cloud State. The Panthers used timely hitting and capitalized on key defensive miscues in game two to secure their first win of the season, highlighted by a three-RBI performance from Ally Prasnjak and a strong showing in the circle from Alaina Schwanke and Jordan Empie.

Game 1:
DU fell to St. Cloud St. 4-1, with Davenport's lone run coming in the third inning. SCSU (9-1) opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning and added two more in the seventh, while the Panthers managed three hits and drew six walks.

The Huskies took an early lead in the first inning with two runs. Weiss scored on a single by Palmer, and Roe crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Davenport responded in the third inning when Chloe Bruman advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Rendon and then scored on a single by Ally Prasnjak. At the end of three innings, St. Cloud St. led 2-1.

In the seventh inning, SCSU added two more runs as Holmes scored on an error, and Harms, pinch running for Weiss, scored on a fielder's choice. The Panthers were unable to rally in the final inning, leaving two runners on base. The game concluded with St. Cloud St. winning 4-1.

Kayla Widner started and pitched 4 innings, recording 4 strikeouts while allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Jordan Empie appeared in relief for 2 innings, giving up 2 hits and 1 walk, striking out 2 batters, and maintaining. Hannah Tahaney closed the game, pitching 1 inning, allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run.

Bruman tallied a hit, scored the Panthers' lone run, and swiped a base. Prasnjak reached base three times with a hit and two walks while also stealing a bag. Schwanke added a base knock and drove in Davenport's run.

Game 2:
Davenport secured a 9-4 victory over Bridgeport — their third matchup in just a two-day span — using timely hitting and capitalizing on three Purple Knight errors to take control early.

The Panthers jumped in front in the second inning when Alaina Schwanke singled and later scored on an RBI double from Chloe Parker. Parker eventually crossed the plate as well, giving DU a 2-0 advantage.

The Panthers broke the game open in the third. Sydney Drenth reached on an error, and Schwanke followed with a two-RBI single to extend the lead. A wild pitch and another defensive miscue brought in two more runs, pushing the margin to 6-0. In the fourth, Ally Prasnjak delivered a two-run single to score Randi Robakowski and Drenth, stretching the lead to 8-0 before Bridgeport answered with one run.

The Purple Knights closed the gap in the fifth with three runs to make it 8-4, but DU responded in the sixth as Prasnjak added another RBI single to cap the scoring at 9-4. The Panthers held firm defensively over the final inning to secure their first win of the season.

Jordan Empie was sharp in relief, tossing two hitless innings with two strikeouts. Prasnjak paced the offense with three RBIs and two hits, while Robakowski scored twice. Schwanke added two hits, two RBIs and earned the win in the circle with 3 1/3 innings of work, allowing one earned run and striking out six.
